The Commission Process

How easy is it to commission Kate to do a painting for you?

Very easy!

1. Contact Me

Send me an email to tell me all about the person or pet you would like me to paint.

Write down your requirements, in as much detail as possible, what you are looking for and when you would like it by.

Consider:

  • what medium you would like it to be in (ie. watercolour, acrylic or oils)
  • what size you would like the painting to be:
    if it is an oil painting - A4, A3, A2, A1
    if it is a watercolour - A4 or A3
    portrait or landscape.
  • whether you want the painting mounted and framed.

2. Send images to me

Be prepared to provide several decent photos of your proposed subject (in good light).

Please photograph the whole subject (ie. include the feet/ paws) in a relaxed and familiar position if possible.

Send photos via email. For a small extra fee, I may be able to come and take the photos.

I paint largely but not exclusively, from photos and I am usually able to advise you as to which photos will be the most flattering or appropriate to use as a reference.

I will modify any aspects you may not be so keen on, if at all possible.

3. Estimate

Once I have seen your photos, I will know whether I can help you or not and I will give you a rough estimate of how much the painting will cost to produce.

This will depend on:

  • the complexity of the painting
  • the number of subjects
  • the size of the painting you require (clearly the bigger the painting, the longer it will take me to complete).

4. The Painting Process

Throughout the painting process, I regularly take photographs which I share with you when appropriate.

I consult with you before, during and after I work on your painting.

When I have finished your painting, please pay any outstanding balance and confirm with me one you have done this.

At this point, if it is a watercolour painting, I will arrange for it to be mounted and framed. The glass will be a non-reflective glass such as “Tru-vu.” The mount will, more than likely, be an off-white mount known as “Cotton Ingres”. Your painting will have an oak or beech frame.

Rest assured that the mount, the special non-reflective glass and the oak frame are all included in the overall cost.

Please note that an oil painting can take anywhere between a couple of months to a year to dry.

You may feel that your oil painting is just right as it is and so doesn’t need to be framed. Please note that price of framing an oil painting is not included in the cost.

I am happy to arrange for your painting to be ready to hang – at no extra cost – if that is what you would like.

Shipping is on offer but is extra.
