I used masking fluid to protect the white areas on this tree frog (the white areas are where the light hits).

Once the masking fluid is dry, you can paint over it. Then, when the paint is dry, you can carefully peel off the masking fluid to reveal the white areas. You can then paint into these areas if you wish to.
